520 | Spelling!

26 July 2019

Hi everyone!

This week our spelling focus was the suffix ‘-able’! We learned that ‘able’ as a free morpheme holds a different meaning to when we use it as a suffix. We have learned that we add this suffix to the end of a word, which will change the word’s meaning! Adding ‘-able’ onto a word transforms it from a verb into an adjective!

For example:

Your coffee cup might biodegrade. (Biodegrade is the verb)

But when we add the suffix…

Your coffee cup is biodegradable. (Biodegradable is the adjective)

Now the only question left to ask is… Are all coffee cups biodegradable?
