Children have been discussing what tools they need to become better readers and writers. Being able to spell and sound out words was the most common goal for many of the children. We discussed how each letter has different sounds and how we can make one sound with two or more letters. We began looking at 75 phonograms that make up most of what we read or write. The children began to understand how sounds were made up and had moments where they understood something they had previously struggled to comprehend. Moving forward children will keep these sounds in mind when attempting to spell or read more challenging words.
