001 Measuring Volume in Maths

14 August 2019

This week we are learning about measurement and the language of capacity. Children are using the words ‘Full’, ‘half full’ and ’empty’ to explain how much volume is held in  various measuring jugs and cups. The ingredients used included rice, pasta and corn flakes.

Children worked together in small groups to either fill or half fill measuring containers, compare the volumes and then guess which container ‘held more’ and  which one ‘held less’.

While the children had a lot of fun measuring these ingredients, they also enjoyed the impossible task of cleaning up rice and cornflakes from carpet. (Well, they tried their best!!!!!)
